Let us tell you that this day is celebrated to make the minority communities aware of their involvement in development, welfare related matters, rights, educational, economic and social work.

What are minorities called

Let us tell you that those communities living in India whose numbers are less, are called minorities. Who are socially, politically and economically backward. But it is true that people of minority community are different from the majority in race, language, religion or tradition, but make important contribution in nation building, unity and maintaining cultural tradition. Some communities in India have been identified as minorities, which include Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis and Jain communities.

19 percent minorities in India

India In India, language and religion are considered the basis of being a minority. The main objective is to protect their caste, religion, culture, language and traditions in a particular minority area. However, language and religion are considered minorities in the Constitution. Minority communities constitute only about 19 percent of India’s total population. The fundamental rights of minorities are written in Section 15 and Section 16 of the Indian Constitution. Socially and educationally backward people should get their special rights, such people will get reservation in government jobs. There is a rule in the Constitution regarding this.

Separate Ministry for Minorities 

 Ministry of Minorities in India provides information to the people about their rights, defence, security, right to education, constitutional rights. Makes people aware about economic empowerment, women empowerment, equal opportunities, security and protection under law etc. The Ministry of Minority Affairs in India focuses on issues related to minorities.

Minorities have got these rights in India

• In the Indian Constitution, religious and linguistic minorities have been given special rights in Articles 29 and 30. Let us tell you that according to Article 29(1), people of any community living in any state of India or any area which has its own regional language, script or culture, have the full right to preserve that area. This provision is under the Representation of the People Act 1951.
• Under Article 30(1) all minorities have the right to establish their own educational institution of their choice on the basis of religion or language.
• Minorities have the right to education. In the National Education Policy 1986, special emphasis has been given on the education of educationally backward minorities in the interest of equality and social justice. In 1992, two new schemes were added to it. In which Intensive Regional Program for educationally backward minorities and Madrasa Education Modernization Financial Assistance Scheme have been started during 1993-94.
• National Minority Educational Institutions Commission was formed in 2004. Under which minority institutions can associate themselves with scheduled schools. Presently Delhi University, North-Eastern Hill University, Assam University, Nagaland University and Mizoram University come in this list.
• It is an area intensive program for educationally backward minorities. The main objective of this program is to provide facilities for education in those areas where educationally backward minorities live in large numbers.
• Financial assistance is to be provided to modernize Madrasa education. Apart from this, financial assistance is also to be provided to the organizations working in the field of Persian and Arabic languages.
